WMIL was contracted to determine the potential impact of roading safety upgrades on habitat used by pīwauwau/rock wren.
WMIL determined that pīwauwau/rock wren were not nesting within the vicinity of the works site during the 2022-23 summer, and the impact of the proposed works on pīwauwau foraging habitat was negligible, so the upgrades were able to proceed. Guidelines for minimising disturbance to and safely interacting with pīwauwau and kea during the upgrades were provided to the contractor.
