New Zealand Bird Atlas

WMIL formed the National Coordination Team for the recent New Zealand Bird Atlas project, which ran from June 2019 to June 2024. This nationally significant citizen science project is Birds New Zealand’s flagship project, building on a legacy of two previous Atlas schemes run in the 1970s and early 2000’s.

Working with Birds New Zealand, as well as the eBird team in the US, WMIL worked to coordinate and support the ever-growing community of birders across the country to help them contribute their valuable bird sightings to the Atlas database via eBird. The project data collection has since finished and the team are now busy analysing and writing up the project voluntarily.
