Puhi Peaks

WMIL has worked with Puhi Peaks Station to establish a new best-practice trapline to protect a remnant colony of Kaikōura tītī/Hutton’s shearwaters from introduced mammalian predators.

The WMIL team has constructed and installed traps targeting rats and mustelids which are made to meet DOC’s kea-proof specifications and endure in a rugged environment. WMIL has provided advice and support to the Puhi Peaks Station for the ongoing servicing and maintenance of this trapline and the collection of trap catch data, so that the trapline can perform effectively.
