Toanui/Flesh-footed shearwaters

Toanui/flesh-footed shearwater monitoring is undertaken by WMIL as part of the DOC Conservation Services Programme (CSP).

With the support of Ngāti wai, and Ngāti Hei, monitoring of toanui/flesh-footed shearwater at their breeding colonies on Mauimua/Lady Alice Island and Ohinau Island has been undertaken since 2016. WMIL have worked to collect key demographic parameters especially adult survival, juvenile survival and recruitment rates. Breeding population estimates and satellite tracking of adults and juveniles is also part of this work as well as surveys of other breeding sites to better inform management of this species. This has included Titi Island in the Marlborough Sounds with the support of Ngāti Kuia.

Project reports are available on the DOC CSP website.
